Homemade Crockpot Applesauce

You know what smells like fall wrapped in a warm hug!! It’s apples especially when they’re slow-cooked from morning until evening.
So, last weekend, I finally tackled the mountain of apples we picked at the orchard and to be honest, when I say “we,” I mean the kids picked five whereas I did the other fifty. The plan was pie but then I remembered how ridiculously easy homemade crockpot applesauce is and since my youngest calls it “apple jam,” that totally sealed the deal.

It’s one of those set-it-and-forget-it kind of recipes because all you have to do is chop then toss everything in after that sprinkle and stir and before you know it, your kitchen smells like grandma’s secret recipe book exploded in the best way possible.

Plus, no peeling is required which is perfect because I simply don’t have time to peel ten apples especially when my toddler is already elbow-deep in flour pretending she’s baking too even though she’s really just making a big mess and moreover, it freezes beautifully so you can enjoy it later too.

Just a heads up it tastes nothing like the store-bought version and in fact, you’ll wonder why you ever bought that watery stuff in plastic cups once you try this.

Kitchen Equipment Needed :

  • Crockpot or slow cooker
  • Knife and cutting board
  • Measuring spoons
  • Potato masher or immersion blender
  • Spoon for stirring
  • Bowl or container for serving or storing

Tips for

Mix apple varieties: Combining sweet and tart apples can give your applesauce a richer flavor.

Control sweetness: Start with a small amount of sugar or honey, as the apples’ natural sweetness is often enough.

Spice it up: Cinnamon is classic, but nutmeg, allspice, or cloves add extra warmth.

Chunky or smooth: Decide before cooking if you want to leave it chunky or blend it smooth after cooking.

Prevent browning: Add a little lemon juice to keep the applesauce bright and fresh looking.
