I made them last summer for a backyard BBQ and I thought I’d just test one before serving them but I ended up eating three instead so I have no regrets. They’re dangerously good because they have sweet strawberries, fluffy cake and a little whipped cream stacked up like dessert on a stick which means that’s exactly what they are.

The best part is that there’s no oven stress and no fancy tools needed since you just need a few ingredients and a few skewers.

  • 1 pound cake store-bought or homemade, cut into 1-inch cubes
  • 1 pound fresh strawberries “washed and hulled”
  • 1 cup whipped cream store-bought or homemade
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • Optional: chocolate syrup or melted white chocolate for drizzling
  • Optional: blueberries or other berries for extra color

How to Make Strawberry Shortcake Kabobs

Step 1

Prepare the strawberries: Wash the strawberries and remove the green tops. You can cut larger strawberries in half if needed.. Slice them into quarters and toss them in a bowl with a few tablespoons of sugar , then In another bowl, combine two cups of all-purpose flour, two tablespoons of baking powder, and half a teaspoon of salt. Cut in six tablespoons of cold unsalted butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. Pour in one cup of milk and mix until just combined.

Start building the kabobs: On each wooden skewer, start with a cube of cake, then add a strawberry, another cube of cake, and so on. You can add a pattern like cake-strawberry-cake-strawberry. then Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Drop spoonfuls of batter onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Keep an eye on them so they don’t get too excited and burn!

While your shortcakes cool, grab your heavy whipping cream. In a mixing bowl, beat it with some sugar until soft peaks form—this will take about three minutes. and Add whipped cream: Use a piping bag or spoon to add a dollop of whipped cream on top or serve it on the side for dipping. If you’re serving them later, wait to add whipped cream until just before serving.
